Oltmans Construction Co. Begins Major Addition To Robinson Helicopter Company’s Torrance Headquarters Site

TORRANCE, CA – Having built a 215,000 square foot manufacturing facility for Robinson helicopter Company in Torrance earlier this decade, Oltmans Construction Co. has broken ground on a 133,000 square foot expansion to that facility, company officials announce.

Robinson Helicopter Company is the world’s leading producer of civil helicopters.

Dan Wozniak, project manager for Whittier, CA-based Oltmans Construction Co., reports that work is underway on the new building adjacent to the companion structure located on Robinson’s headquarters complex at 2901 Airport Drive at Torrance Airport.

The new building is scheduled for completion in August and will bring Robinson’s manufacturing capacity to over 600,000 square feet at the site.

Designed by Carlile Coatsworth Architects, Inc., the new addition is a concrete tilt-up structure that will feature three large hangar doors that will open onto the airport tarmac. The interior of the building will include a distinctive white slab floor.

Founded in 1973 by Frank Robinson, Robinson Helicopter Company has about 1000 employees and currently produces more helicopter annually than all of the other North American manufacturers combined. As an organization, it has a global network of more than 125 factory authorized dealers and 390 service centers in 60 countries including China and Russia. In recent years, efforts have concentrated on developing a 5 place turbine helicopter in addition to its industry leading R22 and R44 helicopters.
