Goodman Logistics Center El Monte is a Class-A, LEED-certified development that has provided new, modern logistics space totaling 1,215,340 s.f. on 55 acres. The two-building logistics campus is located less than one mile from the I-10 and four miles west of the I-605 freeway. The new facility has been constructed with a flexible and sustainable concrete tilt-up design, catering to a range of potential uses well-suited for logistics and e-commerce customers.
The project included the demolition of an industrial building previously occupied by Vons. The challenges were in dealing with the clean-up and abatement of the existing building, which involved protecting active water treatment wells and lines that were utilized for groundwater treatment. The lines had to be protected during the construction of the underground utilities, screen wall, and building, where there were multiple conflicts that required re-engineering of the building components. During demolition, our teams recycled 5,800 tons of steel and 700 tons of wood for reuse. 115,000 tons of concrete were crushed and also incorporated for reuse on the site.
Additionally, the project scope also involved the complete demolition, grading, and paving of an existing street with active, operating businesses requiring uninterrupted water, firewater, and electrical services. This work involved replacing active water lines and undergrounding of overhead electrical lines while maintaining access.
Lastly, this project included the improvement of non-usable area at the adjacent elementary school. The area, originally overtaken by weeds, was converted into an outdoor classroom complete with a vegetable garden, walking paths, and sitting areas for the children.
