Double R Ranch Kitchen & Cafeteria Remodel
The Double R Ranch offers an innovative and unique combination of faith-based principles, educational opportunities, animal husbandry/agricultural activities, and a holistic approach to restoring individuals in need within the community, particularly veterans, men, women, and families. Construction of this project also means continuing the property’s faith-based services of the previous St Michael’s Abbey and providing a safe space for healing, learning, and starting anew.
Comprehensive renovation of a 3,389-square-foot industrial-grade kitchen and dining space. The refurbishment involved gutting the existing space and remodeling it to accommodate upgraded mechanical equipment. Additional joists were incorporated into the roof structure during construction to support the weight of these enhancements, ensuring structural integrity.
Upon completion, the dining room was transformed into a functional and inviting space capable of seating up to seventy-seven individuals. The patio area was also enhanced with pergolas, picnic tables, BBQ grills, and space for overflow seating. The renovation retained the architectural charm of the original 1960s design, including restoring the terrazzo floors and brick façade. Notably, glass sliding doors were added to open onto the patio, maximizing the space's versatility and outdoor connectivity. Overall, the project successfully modernized the kitchen and dining areas while preserving the historical integrity of the building's architectural features.

Dining Room Sign-Offs
The project involved renovating the kitchen and dining room, which required approval from regulatory bodies such as health agencies. Oltmans' project manager and on-site superintendents collaborated with these agencies to ensure compliance and obtain sign-offs for the commercial kitchen equipment. This ensured that the dining room met the health and safety standards necessary for operation.
Mechanical and Structural Upgrades
Due to the building's original construction in the 1960s, mechanical and structural upgrades were required to bring the facility to code and accommodate the anticipated increase in loads resulting from updates to the commercial kitchen. These upgrades were essential for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and functionality of the renovated facilities.
Giving Back & Coordination of Donated Material
Through a monumental coordination effort led by the project management team and critical subcontractors, all the funds and materials needed for the renovation were generously donated. To seamlessly incorporate these contributions into the construction process, the project team adjusted the schedule to align with the delivery timelines for the donated materials and labor. Despite these challenges, the team adeptly adapted and navigated the delays, ensuring steady progress and successful project completion.
