The Crossing – Phase I & II

Oltmans provided construction to the 21,000 s.f. church consisting of a two-story 1,300 seat acoustically controlled auditorium and innovative audio-visual/lighting system. The site work included the excavation of an open pit in order to build the below-grade auditorium. This project was modeled using the BIM delivery process. With the challenges in the horseshoe shaped auditorium design, the BIM model provided time and money saving insight for the structural steel detailing portion of the job and the installation of the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing systems as well as other components of the job. This project was also built around an existing auditorium that was being used for church services. This presented a unique challenge as the new church encroached into this existing auditorium. The BIM model provided valuable information on which portions of the new church could be built while maintaining the use of the existing auditorium. Other unique design features of this project included a state-of-the-art audio-visual and lighting control system. AV system consists of more than 70 speakers, 35 HD TV screens and an HD TV projector. This system is installed in the 1,300 seat auditorium, where every seat has a view of one of the 70-TV screens. The innovative lighting package is a computer-controlled system and includes the extensive use of energy saving LED lights.
